The Bumblebee Conservation Trust
Annie has partnered with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust who work to raise public awareness of the threats bumblebees face and to help rare bumblebees through active conservation work to safeguard, restore and create habitats for them.
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s Bee the Change public engagement project has raised awareness of the plight of our native bumblebee species and given thousands of people across the country the inspiration and guidance to take simple actions and help stop the declines in these vital pollinators.
“Bumblebees are wild bees that provide a vital “free-bee” role in pollinating much of the food on our plates, garden and wildflowers as well as fruits and seeds for birds and small mammals. They act as a useful and powerful indicator of the health of our environment but their numbers and distribution are declining.
The 24 species of bumblebee in the UK, represent approximately 10% of the world’s bumblebee species. In the last 100 years, 2 species have become extinct and 8 of our remaining species are in serious decline. More than 97% of UK’s flower rich meadows have been lost since the 1930’s. Many others have suffered their populations plummeting to dangerously low levels.
As a result of this partnership, 10% of Profits from the Mellifera collection pieces will be going straight towards science conservation and education projects to protect the bumblebees and their habitat!
